SO, WHY HORSERADISH?

The Slovenian word for Horseradish is applied to those who farmed the spicy root, as well as to those who have a reputation for a sharp tongue, a fast wit, and spicy characters.

My family name, Hren, is a direct translation of the word. My forbearers earned the name both from growing the roots as well as being rather spicy characters themselves.

Over a hundred years ago, my great-grandfather arrived in America with nothing but the coat on his back and case of the family horseradish. This got him as far as the Iron Range in Northern Minnesota, where he connected with the existing Slovenian community. His days were spent mining iron, and his own time growing horseradish.

We continue our horseradish tradition on the family farm in the Gold Country of California.

AND WHY HORSERADISH DESIGN?

After over six years crafting, building, experimenting, and hard work in the design field, I make sure to bring some spice and heat into everything I make.

My goal is to create honest design that is effective, clear, and simply beautiful. Behind every good brand, website, campaign, catalog, animation, and interface design there is a story to be told. My job is to bring your story to life efficiently and compellingly, connecting you with your audience and building relationships.

A Northern California native, I've made San Francisco my home since 1999. I received a B.A. in New Media Art from San Francisco State University, and studied Visual Communication as a postgraduate.

I am available for hire, and I would love to work with you on your next project.
